Jan-Willem Baijense completed his studies at the Eindhoven University of Technology with a focus on gaining skills to achieve a maximum performance within the boundaries and restrictions of reality. In 2021 he founded JWBA (Jan-Willem Baijense Architect)
Jan-Willem Baijense specializes in residential projects in a complex urban context. Organizing urban areas is becoming increasingly important with the continuous expansion of cities. When a building is designed in such a way that it is consistent with everything connected with it, architecture can improve and strengthen the existing urban fabric.
From masterplan to living room, Baijense works at every scale level. He has been working at the Architekten Cie. from 2005 till 2021. A milestone in his career there was Block A5 in Seoul, a completely new district that developed into a full-fledged city neighborhood. The knowledge about housing in high densities gained in Korea could then be applied in Russia at Vander Park in Moscow and in the Netherlands at the Pontkade and MIX projects in Amsterdam.
In addition to his own practice JWBA, he advises the municipalities of Hilversum, Dordrecht and Nijmegen in the field of spatial quality.
